Gran Turismo 4 Next Year? 92077510
Gran Turismo Mobile for PSP is unlikely to be ready for release this year. That's according to Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi speaking in an interview today with CVG.

The game is still on its way, though, despite huge delays and rumours that it had been cancelled. It is being made as a satellite version of PS3 game Gran Turismo 5 (which itself won't be out for another year).

When quizzed about the fate of the PSP game, which was announced (as Gran Turismo 4 Mobile) back when PSP hadn't yet made it out of Sony's factories, Yamauchi said, "I don't think Gran Turismo Mobile will make this year, but we're hoping to make the PSP version a satellite game, like an addition to GT5. I have to apologise because so much of our effort and energy is going into making the PS3 version that it's making it very difficult for us to work on the PSP version."

Polyphony has a history of releasing its games when they're ready, meaning it often misses planned release dates. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue finally appeared for PS3 recently as a 'taster' version of GT5, which has suffered considerable delays. When the full thing finally shows up it promises to include car damage and online modes, two things that may transfer to the PSP version.

Gran Turismo Mobile, meanwhile, has been even more of a disappointment to fans of the series since it virtually disappeared after being announced. Yamauchi had previously stated it would be released before the PS3 version, and while that is theoretically still possible, it seems unlikely to us. The developer's focus is obviously entirely on the home console iteration.

We're also still not convinced the PSP is the best platform for such antics but at least GT aficionados can see this as confirmation the game will still come out. Eventually.
